Customer Questions
1. can this be used over existing water based paint without sanding to bare wood? 2. do brushes need to be cleaned with thinners?

We recommend that you lightly sand the surface to create a good key for the paint. If the existing paint is sound, no primer is required. When cleaning your brushes, we suggest turps or white spirits.

Is there a Dulux colour called shire horse?
Yes, there is a Dulux colour called 'Shire Horse 263', to order simply enter the name in the colour finder before adding it to your cart online.
What would be the best base coat for the ultimate opaque oil based varnish? I was thinking of using Dulux aluminium wood primer as an undercoat. It is currently stain varnish on the wood(softwood)

We recommend sanding down the existing varnish before applying the Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque Woodstain or alternatively, applying Zinnser BIN Primer first to ensure adhesion.

Can I have this made into the Ral colour I want?
Yes, we can tint Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque into any colour including RAL. Simply enter 'RAL' followed by the relevant shade number and our team will tint to order.
My wood is treated, do I still need to sand the it before applying Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque?
For optimum adhesion, we always recommend raising the grain slightly using a light abrasive.
Can Dulux Exterior Ultimate Opaque be applied by roller? Your web-site says this is OK but the Dulux literature suggests brush only. If a roller is OK - what type of roller do you suggest.

Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque can be applied using a brush or roller. If using a roller, we would recommend a short pile or flocked roller or a kit like the Axus Wood Finish Kit.

The coverage says up to 20 sq meters per liter, but what is the coverage on a rough sawn type standard garden fence (not smooth)
On Rough Sawn Surfaces the average coverage of a 1Lt tin of Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque would approx. be 12sqm
Can I get this in a gloss finish in walnut colour
Yes, you can tint Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque into a walnut colour. You can either select a colour from our colour selector or you can use the custom colour box to advise our paint experts.
Can you put it on previously painted wood surfaces , if so would it need a good sand down & can it go straight on to bare wood
Yes, The Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque can be applied to Previously Painted and Bare wood.
Getting my stairs painted using an opaque stain. What it the best way to clean it during its lifetime?
The Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque can just be wiped to clean
What should I use to thin opaque psit
We do not recommend thinning the Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque
Is this paint ok for listed buildings that require a breathable paint finish?
Yes, The Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque is breathable.
Does opaque go yellow over time
Yes, As the Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque is an oil based product there is a possibility that the paint will go yellow over time.
